Hi! I’m Melody McCrea.
I would love to have some grand story about how I always grew up knowing I was destined to help people create wealth, or that I was the best example of how to successfully manage money. The truth is that is far from the case. In fact, while growing up and through college, I knew absolutely nothing about managing money or creating wealth. And here’s the kicker, I did not care to know.
I was born and raised in Baltimore City. After graduating from Howard University with a degree in Marketing, I began working in the financial services industry. During this time, I connected with some great people who needed help navigating their way through their finances. While in my career, I was constantly searching for my purpose in life. When people would ask me what I wanted to do I could only respond, “I want to help people”, but I did not know how.
Through my experience in the financial services and wealth management industry, I realized I did not learn about this topic growing up. No one ever taught me about how to save, the importance of having great credit, or investing. Not to any fault of my parents, but the reality was, they couldn’t teach me what they were not taught.
While working for a private wealth firm, I began asking people what wealth meant to them. I received answers like “Wealth? How can I even begin to think about wealth when I am barely making it, living pay check to paycheck?”.
I started noticing so many people in my community were dealing with financial issues because they grew up under the same circumstances as I; they simply DID NOT KNOW.
“I can not and will not accept the fact that people with a similar background as me believed wealth was unattainable.”
From that moment of realization, I wanted to learn so much more about financial stability and building wealth in order to pour all of my knowledge back into the people of MY community. It became my mission to break this cycle of not learning the keys to financial stability; one person at a time.
My purpose, for which I had been desperately searching, was revealed in that moment. I am indeed supposed to help people understand they can in fact obtain wealth, and it all starts with personal accountability and basic financial education. I don’t want people in my community to learn about money and financial issues the hard way, like I did. I want to encourage those who were never taught about the fundamentals of finances that they too can be wealthy; that their children and grandchildren can be wealthy.
With that said, Wealth Begins With Me was created.
This is my purpose. This is my passion.
Helping create generations of wealth, one person at a time.
